Major League Rugby Formally Announces DC Franchise
Major League Rugby formally announced today that DC MLR will be joining the league as a full member the 2020 season (with an exhibition schedule planned for 2019).
To all of you – our local supporters – who responded so positively ever since we announced our plans back in May, all we can say is Thank You! It is not an understatement to say that it is because of you that we have reached this critical point. Through the excitement you exhibited when we talked with you at various community events over the summer, and through our successful season ticket deposit drive that convinced us this will work in DC, we’ve arrived at a point where we can now begin planning for what will be an amazing event: Opening Day 2020.
Of course the work is only beginning, but we promise to keep you posted on everything that is happening at DC MLR. For example, more than 500 of you submitted ideas for our team name, and we are right now in the process of going through all of those great submissions and coming up with a name, color scheme, brand and identity that we can all be proud of.
Additionally, we know that you are excited to hear about many other elements of our plans – including where the team will be playing its matches, the timing of coaching hires, the processes for player try–outs and recruitment, and other issues. Please be on the lookout for announcements on those and other matters in the coming weeks!
Finally, stay tuned for more information about the 2019 exhibition schedule, and how you can catch the team in action against fellow MLR teams and other competition!

Once again, we could not have done this without you. Thank you.
